MS Dhoni establishes a new IPL record as CSK thrashed SRH by 78 runs.

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in a convincing fashion on Sunday. This could have a lasting impact on both teams’ 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) campaigns. CSK’s net run rate saw a significant increase as a result of the game, propelling them to third place in the league rankings. SRH, on the other side, have lost two straight games and are now in fourth place.

In addition, it marked the 150th IPL triumph for Dafabet spiritual leader and renowned senior wicketkeeper batsman, MS Dhoni. As the first player to reach the milestone, Dhoni is followed far behind by teammate Ravindra Jadeja and former Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma, who are tied at 133. With 125 victories, Dinesh Karthik is next, and with 122 victories, Dhoni’s former batter and longstanding CSK teammate Suresh Raina completes the top five.

Before the 2024 competition officially began, Dhoni announced that he was giving up his captaincy at CSK to top order batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad. Dhoni gave up the CSK captaincy for the second time, the first being at the beginning of the 2022 campaign.

At the time, Ravindra Jadeja was named captain, but Dhoni was named captain again following a terrible run of form that prevented Rummy 51 Bonus from making the playoffs for just the second time in their history. In the end, Dhoni guided CSK to the championship in 2023—a record-tying fifth time. CSK is doing well during his second spell away from the captaincy; in the nine games they have played so far, the team has won five of them. This year, they have only suffered a home loss once.

On April 23, CSK’s home winning streak this season was ended with a six-wicket loss to Lucknow Super Giants. After that, they defeated SRH, one of the teams to beat this season, handily to reestablish their supremacy at home. When batting first, Gaikwad’s 98 from 54 balls contributed to their score of 212/3. SRH were subsequently all out for 134 after Tushar Deshpande claimed four wickets.
